The user's credit card information is transmitted via an encrypted API, ensuring unauthorized parties cannot access it. The payment provider then sends this data to Rappi for processing before emailing invoices, which appear instantly after each purchase.

How Does API Integration Fit into User Experience Design?
Most developers might view API integration as a back-end discipline and UX design as a front-end matter. However, the traditional division between front-end and back-end development may not be such a rigid distinction. Integrating these two areas creates seamless user experiences within a digital ecosystem, generating a much smoother interaction that ultimately drives higher conversion rates.
Users do not see any difference between a product's front-end and back-end. Their top priority is solving a problem, and all they care about is whether your product solves it. The more problems your product solves without requiring extra effort on their part, the more users will embrace it.
By using an API, a digital product can automate what would otherwise be a manual transaction without disrupting the user experience. This is one of the key ways integrations streamline processes for users. There is virtually no limit to the number of utilities and digital transactions powered by an API. A company can automate payments, feed data for real-time analytics, or automatically retrieve complementary data from third-party services to which users subscribe.

When Should You Integrate an API to Improve the User Experience?
It is not always feasible to implement an API for every potential user scenario. However, designing a customer user experience offers a valuable framework for evaluating whether to integrate with third-party software.
First, map out the current user experience of your digital product or website as it stands. Next, identify the steps that require additional input from the user. If an alternative digital source exists for that input data, an API integration can likely automate that step effectively. Following this, apply the same approach to the data users submit within the system. Does your product generate user data intended for third-party applications? Having full control of information is not the only advantage of integrating an API into digital products, even if it is the most common one.
